Details

The Federal Trade Commission sued Uber Technologies, Inc. for allegedly charging consumers for its Uber One subscription service without their consent, failing to provide a simple cancellation mechanism, and falsely claiming customers could cancel "at any time" with no additional fees.

The FTC complaint alleges Uber violated Section 5 of the FTC Act and the Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act (ROSCA) by: enrolling consumers in Uber One subscriptions through a negative option feature without clear consent; failing to provide a simple mechanism to stop recurring charges; charging consumers without authorization; and falsely advertising that customers could cancel "at any time" with no additional fees.
