Details

Shutterstock Inc. agreed to pay $35 million to settle Federal Trade Commission allegations that the online digital photo and video platform engaged in unfair and deceptive practices, including charging consumers for products without their informed consent and making it difficult to cancel subscriptions.

The FTC alleged that Shutterstock made tens of millions of dollars through a range of unfair and deceptive practices. The company charged consumers for products without obtaining proper informed consent and used complex, confusing cancellation processes that made it difficult for subscribers to stop recurring charges. These practices violated the FTC Act's prohibition against unfair and deceptive acts.
