Details
On May 12, 2026, a federal indictment was unsealed charging Synergy Marine Pte Ltd (Singapore), Synergy Maritime Pte Ltd (Chennai, India), and their Technical Superintendent Radhakrishnan Karthik Nair for their roles in the March 26, 2024 crash of the M/V Dali into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. The crash killed six construction workers, destroyed critical infrastructure, caused an estimated $5 billion in economic loss, and released pollutants into the Patapsco River and Chesapeake Bay.
The indictment alleges the M/V Dali lost power twice in a four-minute span while navigating out of Baltimore harbor. A loose wire in a high-voltage switchboard caused the first power loss. The defendants allegedly altered the ship's fuel delivery system, relying on a flushing pump to supply fuel to generators instead of proper fuel supply pumps. The flushing pump was not designed to automatically restart after a blackout, causing a second power loss that made the vessel unmaneuverable. If proper fuel supply pumps had been used, the vessel would have regained power in time to safely navigate under the bridge. Defendants are also charged with obstruction of an agency proceeding for providing false statements to the NTSB.
