After it self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Suburban Pastoral Counseling Clinic, Inc. d/b/a Suburban Crossroads Counseling (SPCC), Maryland, agreed to pay $65,000 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that SPCC submitted improper claims using SPCC’s National Provider Identifier number for mental health counseling services provided to Medicare beneficiaries by SPCC’s licensed clinical professional counselors (LCPCs) incident to SPCC’s licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), and to Maryland Medicaid recipients by SPCC’s licensed graduate professional counselors incident to SPCC’s LCPCs when such services were not covered by Medicare or Maryland Medicaid.
